I don't know if that's an official name but it's what the lady that is helping Mrs. DDave with the flower bed layout called them.

They are actually place holders. We dug a hole the size of one of those gallon plant containers and put two in the hole -- one inside the other. We filled them with bark so we didn't step in the hole until we had a chance to get plants. Which was today.
So then all we needed to do was lift out the inner pot.
And place the pot with the plant into the bottom pot.
When we want to change plants we just lift out the old ones and put new ones in. There is an emitter on each one so they will get water. No more digging to replace annuals.
Mrs. DDave was really stoked about this idea. I have not seen her this excited in a long time.
