There's a hole in the bag? No wonder it's so cheap...

That's the kind of thing I've been doing for years:
Get the whole Roast---Maybe 20 pounds.
Take it home & cut it into 4 pieces about 5 pounds each.
Remove the Rib bones, leaving about 3/4" to 1" of meat on the bones.
Keep the bones all together for a future Beef Dino Smoke, and Vac Seal the 5 pounders (minus the bones).Freeze 3 and keep one out for a "Real Soon Dinner"

However I never got any for $3.98.

Same here in our Albertsons. I'd be filling the freezer at $4 per pound.

Ended up with a 3.75 lb roast, 14 steaks 1/2" thick +-, 3 rib chunks (7 bones total), a "mystery" small steak and aboot 1 lb Kabob chunks. Probably discarded 3 pound of fat. First time cutting one up with the bone in place. Kinda fun/interesting. Trimmed as much fat as I could to help please the wife unit..... She's weird aboot some cuts of beef. If I ask her if she wants Ribeye steak for dinner, she says No Thanks, Butt if I ask her if she wants Prime Rib for dinner, she says Sure/Yum!..... ....

All vac packed and in the freezer, except a couple steaks for Saturday night. Took aboot 1.25 hour from start to finishing clean up, with a few beers involved.....

$3.98 a lb. Was it worth it? Idunno, butt I thinks so, considering the normal price of Ribeye. Really looking forward to the ribs. Then a package arrived from Owens BBQ....

Agreed, meat in general is crazy expensive when not on sale, and some sale prices are not that great as you know. I had been oot of beef steaks/roasts in the freezer for aboot a 2-3 weeks, and could not take it any more! Been eating chicken, burger and pork loin steaks, butt needed some real beef to chew on. The Owens stuff was my Christmas exchange present to me. I have been "pretty good" this year........
