The engineers behind the scenery deserve their own medals. I don't think I have ever seen a stadium that size, completely reconfigured that fast or comprehensively - ever :-)
And then the finish an incredible event off with a bloke who couldn't sing in the right key in the middle of a locksmith's convention.
why oh why oh why oh bloody why - is paul macartney allowed near a bloody microphone ? (it's becuase he's a billlionaire with an ego the size of jupiter and he's probably promised to invest heavily in danny boyle's next fillum, I know - but stay with me :-)
It's not like we've got a shortage of people who could have made a truly superb job of finishing off the ceremony. mcartney categorically proved during the jubilee celebrations that he's so far past it he's in a different country.
It's about time he either dropped dead (my favourite) or just was locked in a room without earplugs and was forced to listen to himself sing - with his hearing aids turned up to max !
If that didn't cure him - nothing would.
So my advice - ignore the last 10 minutes and you've got one of the best opening ceremonies I've ever seen.
Here's hoping the rest of the games is up to the same level (just not the last ten minutes )

I only watched a little last night, and I have to agree about the old fart & his voice.
Kinda reminds me of a Pro athlete, who just doesn't have it any more, yet drags it out a few more years, until they finally have to tell him, "It's over".
I'm happy to hear I'm not the only one who dislikes Paul McCartney. I actually used to like him way back when, but after the 911 attacks, he plugged himself and his new album rather than focus on the tradegy at that huge concert. I don't know if anyone remembers what I'm referring to, but that did it for me. He's a complete selfish, pompous asshole in my book.

well one of the uk's 'guarenteed medals' - mens road race - just went: kazakstan, colombia, holland. Not sure the british team were even on the right road lol Think maybe the tour de frace might have been a couple hundred kms too much for mark cavandish. Good day to be a british bookie though lol

And when did baseball stop being an olympic event ? I was really looking forward to that - and it's not on the schedule. Always liked watching team usa getting stuffed

i agree paul mcartney sucked, i actualy felt sorry for him, why can't good bands just do what athletes do and give it up while their on top of their game,
england has so many iconic bands, blur, coldplay, hell even robbie williams did better at the queens jubale and he's a prize twat.

Not sure how anyone could hate Paul McCartney. He made his best shot, and IMO put out some of the most beautiful music in the world.
yeah way back when - and all his best stuff was with lenon (that tells you something). These days he's a deluded 70 year old with an ego the size of the sun and VERY selective hearing.
But apparently his performance was supposed to be ironic and ties into the british propensity for self criticism.
ie: we put out a bloke who's singing days are so far behind him he'd need a telescope to see them - and it says to the world: who cares, we don't take ourselves too seriously :-)
At least that's what i've been told :-)
anyway - we finally got a couple of gold medals yesterday. whole country went nuts. lol
I guess being somewhere where winning ANY olympic medal is a national event - does actually make the olympics that bit better.
