It's 1", I upgraded thinking I'd need that for flow to all parts of the pipe... I really don't wanna have to have those other intakes.
I'd give that a go by itself then. Only trouble I would anticipate is if you wanted to cook at 350°+ for chicken or if you had like 35 pounds of pork shoulders on there. I would bet that it would be starved for air at that point.

You're choice.
I did but I don't know that it's necessary. Keeping it centered is good though.
I had mine slide over against and block an intake before I added the bolts to keep it centered.

But they are still pretty darn efficient even when loaded with meat.
