  • new planters...............

while these have worked out well for years i wanted a new look and a solution to the invasion of grass as well as making luxury condos for scorpions so out with the old........

after excavating and leveling we set the new planters on cement block caps and filled with a potting soil mix......you can see the block stripped away from the plant.......

found 3 of these lil' bastards while striping down the blocks and we aren't even in season yet....it didn't end well for them........

made shelter from the hot Az sun.........i kinda like the look.

as usual, thx for stoppin' by.............

summertime is 115 in the shade..........there is plenty of ambient sunlight. the chili plant still in the ground next to the new planter is an easy 5yrs old. i just don't know how they will do in their new environment so close to the on coming high temps......time will tell.

You should get to find oot next weekend... Supposed to hit triple digits for the first time this year...
I be wondering if the roots will survive? Those tubs will get pretty hot this summer.

that's what i thought at first but they should cool down quicker than the block......they would hold the heat well after the sun went down.

Gardening in the desert must bring it's own set of challenges...Including the eight legged kind

Love the looks of the setup! Good luck with it, and I hope the tubs don't get too hot.

                          Drinks well with others

Might be a little late in the process, but could you not take some 1" foam insulation board (the flexible type) and bend it to fit the outside edge of the metal tubs? I would think that would help buffer the direct solar gain from the metal sides. But those do look like a great idea. And the galvanized shed protection/roof would also reflect any ambient light reflecting up off the ground, so it's not like it's 100% shade either.

I love coming home. My back porch smells just like a BBQ joint.....

Looks good. I am thinking about building something simular but using pipe in the bottom to possibly make it a self watering system. Sorta like this.
