  • What digital scale?

Went out last month and bought a elcheapo digital scale from Harbor freight.

That is not my usual way of doing things but I was there picking up some other things and stumbles upon it for like $9.00.

I was playing around with it trying to see how accurate it could be to measure spices and messed up the calibration.

The only way to calibrate the one I have is to have 2 2500gram weights.

So I guess I am in the market for something else.

What scale are other folks using? How much are they? Do any have a self calibration?

I'm going to give this unit a serious look............after I call the co. to see where it's made. The name of the co. might be deceiving. They also have a PS-20.

            According to their write-up ...

This unit is from Penn Scale Manufacturers, a third generation scale company in business in Philadelphia since 1923. Their motto is: "the Penn weigh is the right way!"
Not sure if they actually make the scale there though...

Yes that sounds like the trickery they say but its really made in china, like that little griddle they said their company is out of Michigan but the products are made in china.

                Probably

It is a shame but its everything is getting that way.

Looking to see if any models have a self calibration mode.

I got this primarily to measure meat for sausage making.

Now I probably need something that will get something a little more accurate for spices.

Unfortunately, you can't always believe what you read and a phone call to the company will confirm exactly where it's made. If you're picky about where a product is made, like I am, this step is necessary.
Pandy, that's why I called em up, but they also fell victim to big retailers who dictated to them what they were going to pay for their product. While their website gave the impression that the product(s) were made in Michigan, they had to move the manufacturing to China. The website just didn't reflect the change. Ooops!
As far as where the Penn Scale is made, I'll have an answer tomorrow morning.

Which one Looks like the cheapest one is $350.00.
It appears that they don't make a kitchen or portion control scale.

Sorry, I was being sarcastic. Seems us Americans only make commercial quality high grade kitchen equipment.

Because, like I've said before, MOST American consumers want stuff for a cheap price. Until Americans are willing to PAY for quality, more and more stuff will continue to be made in China.
