    Awww!

I have never seen fatwood or tumbleweeds in stores around here. I have often thought of making my own starter cubes out of the egg cartons or toilet paper tubes and dryer lint but why do all that work when I can spend less than 4 bucks on the Weber cubes.

You don't wanna do that anyway. I have been down wind of those dryer lint things... and what's that lint comprised of? Right... bad idea there.

I'd likely feel better about that lint than what comes off of modern materials. If it were not for petroleum and chemists, we'd be pretty nekkid right now.

In my quest to find some weber starter cubes today I stumbled onto the tumbleweed starter at lowes today and picked up a box. Glad to hear they work.

Why mess with those cubes at 4 bucks a package when you can light hundreds of lump or briq fires with one of these for a whole lot less money in the long run? Only takes 10 seconds, go prep your meat and wah lah your fire is ready. Works great on the Amazn smoker as well

Sure can and you don't even need to use a chimney. Just dump the coals in the Vortex, touch the coals in a couple of spots, go prep your meat and then the fire is ready

Sorry to sound dumb.....but you start it from the top then and it will work its way down....Ive just always started from underneath with newspaper.....I picked everything up today.....ignitor and mapp gas, weber starter cubes and the tumbleweeds.....should be good for a while.

It works up or down...trust me. Better yet, give it a go and report back.
You can always take the cubes and weeds back

I have always been happy with the paper under the chimney thing but what I found is that with 33 cents worth of whatever my chimney was lit about 10-15 minutes quicker...Not saying that its the only way to go but sure has some advantages...

When I light up me stickburner I always have started with a chimney of lit lump...Thinkin with the cubes I could skip the royal oak and just ignite the splits...That will save way more than it will costs...Gonna give it a try this weekend...

I just bought a new stryker for me propane torch today. Couldnt get it to light with anything else..... The stryker worked

A buddy told me he uses a torch and drilled out the bottom holes in his chimney and sets it in there for a couple minutes and good to go. Gonna look at the setup tonight. Be nice to not have all that paper ash flying around after lighting and dumping.

I got a good 3 inches clearance under the grate on the Lang...and have used a Sterno can with good results. You gotta put it on a "spatula" or rig a wire harness to remove it tho. Put some small sticks on the bottom and it works well. Sooo the cubes should too. Would be helpful to have a little airspace under them..set 'em on a bit of crumpled tin foil.
