  • Found this site searching for info on TLC show

Howdy y'all, I was searching for info on the BBQ Pitmasters show when this site popped up. Good to know that there are more than a couple of forums out there. I've been cookin' since '98 and am now on the 2009 Memphis in May world champion whole hog team, Party Q from Batesville Arkansas. We have finished in the top ten in MBN points the last two years and are not planning on slowing down. We do around 12 to 16 MBN contests a year and a couple of KCBS shows too. I was watching the show on TLC tonight and was surprised at all of the "dog and pony show" references. If MBN is a dog and pony show then KCBS is a salad contest ! IMHO. Let's all just have fun and cook some good meat and maybe learn somethin' from one another. If you are at an MBN and we are there come say hello and have a cool beverage with us !

welcome aboard. no disrespect but the tv shows show everything as a celebrity or d&p show. i know lots of GC'S that didn't get drawn for the jack & lots of backyard or restaurant cooks that would kill against any competitor.
we may see ya in memphis next year but we're more about profit than recognition. best of luck to ya & cheerz mate.

p.s.- post often- show tips & help members to be & do better- and have fun. that's what we're about here.

I reserve the right not to sell to anyone. Pushing? Eh...it seems to move under it's own power. Besides, if I gotta cook for the guy I need an advantage, right?

Not sure but I'm thinkin that the only reason I'd wanna compete now is to kick that a-hole Myrons butt. It's startin to look like it's not much fun. Think I'll just stick around here. Learn from great people without monster egos and love for good food and good people.

Sigh... it CAN be fun, JT. Yes, it IS stressful, but your team helps you with that... and perhaps even some of the competition. Yes... it's true. They might not give it all away, but there has been many times the team I was with has been helped by other teams.

And there is nothing like sitting at judging in anticipation of "getting to walk" And if ya felt good about some of yer entries- it's rough if ya don't.

i love to do saki w/ the slap ya daddy crew. that leann is crap- she beat bobby flay & still went 3rd from the bottom in pork- well that says alot.

it's all tv. i'd rather hang with Bourdain & have fun.

Well I'm still on step "A", got a long way till "Z" I guess I'll just keep on learnin' I guess I would still like to try a comp some day. Hey, on whole Hog, can you break it up? I can put a 150 pounder on 1 rack on Whisky fish, but only if I take the head off and move it to the next rack. And is 150 okay for comp?
