Spiceco Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Peanut Allergen in 5 Oz. Containers of Pride of Szeged Sweet Hungarian Paprika Lot # 091617PAHU05PS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — January 29, 2015 — Spiceco of Avenel, NJ is recalling PRIDE OF SZEGED SWEET HUNGARIAN PAPRIKA because it may contain undeclared Peanut Allergen. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to Peanut Allergen run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

This product was sold between September 18, 2014 and October 13, 2014 to distributors located in IL, NJ, CT, MI, FL, NY, OH, CA and VA.

Pride of Szeged Hungarian Paprika is packaged in a metal tin container with the lot number 091617PAHU05PS printed on the lower edge of the lid.

No illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported to date.

The problem was brought to Spiceco’s attention on January 27, 2015 after the Tennessee Department of Agriculture conducted routine retail food product sampling in the Cleveland area on a 5 oz container of Pride of Szeged Hungarian Paprika which revealed the presence of peanut allergen. Lot number 091617PAHU05PS showed positive for the presence of a peanut allergen not disclosed on the product label.

Customers who have purchased the above described product are urged to return to it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Customers with questions may contact the company at: 1 - 732 - 499 - 9070 Monday through Friday between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM EST.

I seem to recall asking a guy in Michigan, dealing in volumes of spices(heavy in paprika) if he ever enrolled in the FDA's ALERT program.....

Funny, we all either ate peanut butter as kids or sat next to a kid that ate peanut butter EVERY DAY. No allergies. Some of us enjoyed peanuts at ball games and fairs. NO ALLERGIES.
            Makes me wonder.
15 years as a trauma nurse and never seen a case. Yet, everyone else seems to be able to speak to a case of some kid they know who has suffered this experience. Odd indeed. Oh yeah, the measles vaccine is bad for your kids too, dumbass... Just sayin' Disneyland...

I had just bought the stuff from Amazon this weekend. The package showed up today and my wife also got a package from Amazon. She said here I bought you something and handed me a tin of this paprika. I laughed as I opened my package and pulled out the same from my order. HA! I told her good minds think alike.

McCarthy is a peanut free facility. Won't even let the employees have them for lunch it sounds like.

                  Re:

I know teachers here in Ohio who tell me kids can't have any peanut products in the school's period.

I used to date a girl who ran a health food store. Almost married that girl. But she was always making peanut butter at her store in this big machine which ground it. Used other nuts too and made mixtures with them. Often laced it with Honey. Never any problems.

But she told me that the Peanut Butter you get in the stores is about
half Peanut Butter and the other half oils from all kinds of vegetable matter. Like half Crisco or something.

She had been a social worker and had a background in nutrition before taking the Managers job at this store. She was wanting to open her own day care center and feed kids healthy whole foods while they were there. When I asked "her" where she thought all these kids problems were coming from that we were always hearing about, she simply stated
that she thought it started with the "baby formula". When we were at the regular grocery stores she had this "Dictionary of Food Additives" in her purse, and pulled some cans of baby formula off the shelf and started going down the list of ingredients and reading the indications of those different additives.

She was always going on about what was found to be happening to baby rats that consumed these chemicals. I just told her that our "baby rats" would never consume any of that stuff.

I just wonder if it's the Peanuts or the stuff they put on them when they raise them. Kind of like the chemical feast in a cigarette with all the poisons sprayed on the tobacco when they grow it. And once it's Peanut Butter it's difficult to say what else is mixed into it and how it was grown. Say HFCS (high fructose corn syrup) and I rest my case.

Same here. Both of mine came from that lot but I eat p-nut butter daily, so it is staying in the cupboard.
