My FIL brought over a bottle of Egg Nog Christmas day. During all the cooking and running aroond, I poured a glass and added a healthy shot to it. Whoa! I told him this shit is strong! He laughed, he said it has booze in it you oh well, just helped me get to bed early, as planned
That's why I included the cooked version. I have always made the raw version and have never had an issue with it. I have used EB eggs, commercial eggs, and home grown eggs. I figure add enough bourbon and it will kill any nasties.

Heh... assuming you use alcohol. I would, but a few in my fam don’t drink, and my oldest is preggers... def. no-no on most anything raw...even lunchmeats in some cases... lysteria worries. Extra caution for the very young and old as well.
I’m gonna try the “raw” recipe tho..with the pasturized eggs
I can't even tell you how many raw eggs I have consumed during the course of my life...but as I've gotten older I would like to think I have gotten smarter and if I'm serving anything to anyone else, I won't take a safety shortcut.
I'm stopping by the store at lunch to get some cream to give AJ's eggnog recipe a run this weekend (the rest of the things I have). I will probably use the temper / heat to 160° method as other people may partake in some of it too. I'd use the SV method to pasteurize the eggs, but I had a bit of an issue with my SV If I was sure that I would be the only one drinking it, I'd use the raw egg method with little hesitation, and if I had a new SV I'd also use the "raw egg" method with a little SV pasteurization thrown in.
