I usually wash my strawberries with a bit of lemon juice in the water and dry them real good to try and keep them from rotting so quick

Wouldn't you think that the "pro" producers would be doing this already, or more?

I've always just rinsed mine, then cut off the top and any other bad places. If I've eaten a bug because I've done it wrong, I have to ask, how bad is it to eat that bug (as long as I don't see it? ).

try not to wash strawberries as they tend to go mushy.

But so what if you eat a few tiny insects, it's just protein :-)

You really need to watch for bugs inside the cavity if raspberries. when I was a kid we had raspberry bushes, i was just pickin and eating then looked inside a berry and there were a bunch of real small critters inside. And I,m proud to say I'm still around today to tell you this story . And when I go out to my garden and pick strawberries I eat a few out there, just wipe em on your sleeve and eat, the rest I bring in I wash and freeze whole or use in recipes.

That's kinda what I was thinking. Unless it's poisonous it's probably not gonna hurt you much.

we don't have poisonous minature insects over here lol

And no it can not do you or your kids any harm.

If the h&S nutters had their way, the entire world would be sanitised, and we'd all die of the first minor bug we all caught :-)

Kids should play in dirt, people should eat fruit straight from the hedgerows or bushes (as long as they haven't been sprayed with some nasty insecticide).

Amen to that. I cringe every time I see a commercial on tv for "antibacterial" or "kills 99.9% of germs".

I wish people would realize that by doing this all they're doing is weakening their own immune system while at the same time creating super bug populations that are immune to antibacterial agents.
