Thanks and me too. Don't mind my dirty doors as they have concrete dust on them from drilling the door frame holes.

that's a big mass of concrete - it'll hold heat, don't worry about that .

The only question is whether the cement will stand up to it.

The cement that is in the firepit is mixed with fire clay so it better.

Got my door handles installed tonight so I decided to light a fire to test and here are the results: Lit one chimney of Cowboy bark, left it in the chimney the whole time but the temperature NEVER got over 145 and its been an hour. I did leave the flue wide open and had the air intake 3/4 of the way open which is 2 2" circles in the firepit door. What did I do wrong folks? Thanks in advance.

Not if I can't get the temp above 145 deg.

I put some small pieces of wood in with the carcoal, then I add more wood as needed.
I have had mine up over 300. It will get as hot as you want, just add more wood..

also, after you get all that concrete hot it don't take much to keep temp. up.
Just play with your vents a little..

Well, instead of letting the fire completely die out I went out and threw some wood in the firebox that I had lying around from a tree that is shedding its limbs (dieing) and just a few minutes later the temp is up to 183 deg and climbing quickly ! I am guessing just charcoal will not get this big boy up to temp without some wood.

Thought that I did, I am from Mt. Vernon, 45 minutes south of Lexington and I have the door handles on and the last rack built. Now to the chimney cap with damper and this weekend I should be able to polish the top and stucco the sides for a finish!
Door Handles: (and yes, that is a welder's chipping hammer with the end cut off, bent and the end welded back on to use as the door latch)

As for this temp guage, they stink and this one is off by 20 degrees, according to my Maverick ET732!

(Don't pay any attention to this pics as they were shot at much different times)
