  • Wood selection - Grape Vine?

I have seen kicking around mention of using grape vine / wood for smoking. Now if so then would this be without the shaggy outside I assume? We have tons of this here and available and it would be another option to add to the collection but not sure of anything regarding its usage otherwise. Any opinions?

      Drifter,
Can't wait to see the discussion on this one. I've never tried it, nor do I remember seeing anyone try it... You may have to give it a shot a slab or two and let us know!

We had an extremely cold winter that wiped out a good portion of our wine grapes here, and kicked the crap outta my table grapes. If it is good, me and Bassman have access to a life time supply of dead vine!

I've heard of people using grape vines for smoking but heve never tried it myself. I have plenty of it growing on the fence between me and my neighbor so maybe I'll give it a whirl sometime. I've also heard of folks using corn cobs for smoking but that doesn't even sound right. Now the silks are another story.

I have used the grapevine wood for smoking. It is a pleasant mild wood. I purchased it through http://www.barbecuewood.com/StoreFront.bok

I know a lot of people here use cobs for smoking fish. Since we are on the great lakes a lot of steel heads and salmon along with others are quite popular.

Thank you for the link. Some of their stuff is really pricey. I have more vines than I know what to do with; domesticated as well as wild in the woods. I see they say it smokes much like fruit woods so I am assuming lite and sweet.

Well, guess its a try and see item...
