  • 1st cook on the new/used weber kettle

So the Hubs wanted steak tonight so thought I'd try the weber out... never used briquettes before and gave it a whirl...added 2 chunks of cherry.Taking suggestions from ya'll I foiled 2 of the vents and did indirect/reverse sear method...did a beef tenderloin for the Hubs and I and a couple steaks for Sonny boy with worshy and spicy montreal season, garlic ranch shrooms for me and the boy and peas for the Hubs & 2x baked pots. Put the steaks on a little too soon but Son didn't mind the MW cook, took the loin to 145 but dont think I used enough coals by the time I got to the sear it was piddling out. The loin was very tender, a little more done than we like it but hell it was good eats! Thanks for looking and thanks for all your tips! Will be using the kettle again

Your going to learn to love it.But I never do indirect for steaks.I just get a full grill of super hot coals and throw the steaks on for 3-4 min per side they sear instantly and come out medium rare

I thought the loin was thick enough to try it and I wanted to add a little smoke. I didn't do it to the steaks just put them on too soon LOL.

Thanks guys, yeah looking forward to playing with it!

Your going to love that kettle. I use to think that starting up a kettle just seemed like way to much work when I can just turn on my propane gas. After smoking foods for a few years with my UDS and finally getting a kettle I haven't looked back. I haven't used my propane grill since last summer.
