The judging part has me totally confused. 6 portions for 30 judges? Your score sheet shows Judges 1-6. Does all of your turn in boxes go to a certain table of judges? How does this work scoring against the other tables with different tastes/opinions? What was meant by 28% CBJ? Out of the 30 judges only about 9 were certified? Do judges get piad for comps?
Ok, I'll shut up now.sigpic

I don't know if ANYONE knows, Lou...but here's my take.
Yes indeed..not every judge gets every entry. I don't know if it's broken down by table or not... and there is no "fudge factor" involved on different tables/judges... perhaps our ribs would have been scored better by a different judge than #4 who killed our 1 or 2 place finish with ribs.
Good question I dunno WHAT the CBJ% is
I am not sure about being paid... I'm prtty sure they get travel expenses if cert'd. The KCBS assigns them to particular comps. In God I trust- All others pay cash...Check out the Mad Hunky and products at https://madhunkymeats.com or https://www.facebook.com/MadHunkyMeats

I'd say by your scores Rich, you got some good judging!
They're not paid in any way, they do it for the love of the sport (and free BBQ!)
When 6 turn in boxes are brought up, they all go to ONE table so theres a chance you may get a good table of judges or not.
Judging is one of those things that are completly out of your hands. You just do the best you can and hope the BBQ gods are looking upon you!

Bubba explained it pretty well in a nutshell!
Just think if we woulda done one of them circular lettuce in the middle thingies!
LOL, it is what it is, and I had a good time, lotsa laughs, good people to visit with, getting to play with food with a couple really great guys, and then the chaos and excitement of turn in time.
It's alot more fun than an allnighter at home by myself for petes sake!
Here are a couple things that stand out in my memory from the event.
Help from many comp teams, and myself trying to help some other first timers too.
How cool and collected and stress free Troy Conner is at all times. That guys cracks me up, and he is always thinkin about tastes and new stuff.
The great spread that the GLBBQA members put out to feed the teams,
and when ya go to the Rubbed , sauced, and smoked camp, ya better be on yer toes, cuz the last lier don't stand a chance over there!
Pretty fun way to spend a weekend.Lang 60 Mobile deluxe

See what happens? I visit for a few hours and I want to dissect the whole process. Maybe judging is in my future.sigpic

Alot of times local personalities will judge... sooo yeah about any Joe Blow. I don't know the figger but there is a certain %CBJ's they need for a valid contest result.
Check out the KCBS website Lou- there's judging classes all over.
