Just thought I would post up some pictures of our garden and the new orchard we planted this year.
We got off to a bad start this year with a real late frost in Northern Michigan. Had the tomatoes covered but it got down to 28 degree's one night.... had some damage but they are coming around. Picked our first cherry mater yesterday.
Compost Piles
First pile went on the garden this spring. We have yellow sand for native soil so it needs alot of work.
This is the back pile as of today I will work it in next spring.
Had to put the electric fence in to keep out the critters.
Lots of tomato plants (31) and peppers (row and a half)
Been working and planning the orchard for over a year. Last year my son and I removed the trees and dug out the stumps. Dug 20 holes aboot 4 1/2 yards holes and back filled with topsoil. Buried almost 400' of 1" water line for the main trunk for irrigation. We installed 3 frost free hydrants then planted clover last fall.
The clover is doing great... but caused another problem sort of. Deer almost lived in the orchard.
Fist night after planting the new trees deer browsed every one and took out two tops.

Next day went to the store a bought a 10 pack of Irish Springs soap and cut them in half and drilled a hole and hug one on each tree. Well it worked... been two months now and not a nibble. Matter a fact I watch them everyday pass through and they will NOT stop to feed.

I planted another field back in the woods a couple hundred yards so we are all happy now.
Sorry for the long post and thanks for looking.
