Here is a link to the calculator.
      https://www.mathopenref.com/segmentareaht.html

Which works pretty much the same as the Throat Calculator for Cylindrical Tanks found on this page except that you can also calc the area if you are using a grease dam.

The formula without the explanation doesn't make sense.
It tells you where the reverse flow plate needs to go.

It means you need a big lump!

It tells you what the area is of the firebox to cook chamber opening (assuming the cook chamber is round) given half the cook chamber diameter (r) and the cutout height measured from the bottom of the cook chamber (h).

But then so does this calculator. And the calculator does it with much less

Getting the inside cleaned up a bit.

Ya know Craig, you bring up a good point.

I spent WAY too much time stressing over the RF plate slope to the center and end to end and how to cut the pieces so that they would be easy to pre-weld and lay in the cook chamber at the correct angle and height and and and I'm working in AutoCAD and going nuts because the dimension lines are a few 1/100ths off from what I expect.

And then it hit me. A few 1/100th's of an inch here and there will make absolutely no difference at all in the end.

Good Lord, why do I have to overthink shit all the time.

Dave on my big offset (rust in peace) I didn't weld the RF plate. It sits on a curved bottom so gravity will hold it in place, makes it easier to clean. Yea it leaked a little, but not much. not enough to effect anything. I did bolt in a lengthwise support to hold up the center.

Various holes from the miscellaneous fittings patched and the door mostly cut.

Waiting on hinges to weld in place with the strapping before finishing the cut. Hinges should be here Saturday.

Has a nice clean square edge now.

And some random pictures of the shop for anyone interested in the program.
