  • Dill sauce made easy

I been playing around with this for a while...
Mamma loves some dill sauce with her fish...
Her favorite kind is no longer available in our stores...
And I'm too broke and lazy to order it online

So this is where we are...Arrowroot powder and dill pickle juice...

    Why arrowroot instead of cornstarch?
Cornstarch requires more heat, longer cook time, and produces a cloudy end result...
The arrowroot works well with acidic liquids and minimal heat...
Thickened to the consistency I want and nearly clear...

    Beautiful

    Easy Dill Sauce

    1 T. arrowroot powder
    1 T. water
    1 C. dill pickle juice

    Mix the arrowroot and water
Heat the juice to a very low boil
Mix in the slurry and remove from heat
Do not over heat. Do not over stir.

    Done

Calorie free, cholesterol free, carb free, and gluten free (if that matters)...
Sodium is what it is based on the juice that you use...

    new one on me.

If I were making a dill sauce I'd most likely go down the honey and mild mustard route with dill mixed in.

This sauce doesn't overpower the fish at all...Light and fresh...

I cant wait to try it on a breaded chicken sandwich

Craiger, that's a keeper. Gotta try that! I like the arrowroot idea.

          Drinks well with others

Sounds great. I like it being a light sauce. Should be great on baked fish.

Baked or grilled or whatever...It's a fat free alternative to tartar sauce...

If ya like sweet pickles I guess you could go that direction too...
I want to make it with my hot garlic dill pickle juice...

The dill flavor all comes from the pickle juice...I have added some dill relish for texture but it's not necessary...It's just a light sauce with a hint of dill...Nothing strong or in yer face...
