    Copper sulfate is what we mostly used for algae control in commercial pools. (When I used to work) Butt don't drink the pool water, for different reasons. Bromine is the other chem, but mostly used with tablet chlorination.
    Ya also might try some of that silver roof paint, like they paint thy roofs of trailers (I guess). I think it is supposed to reflect/block heat. How well it will stick to plastic, I dunno about that.

        This white elastomeric reflective roof coating or another brand of it will work on your tanks. The silicone type will not as well. This type coating will flex without coming off.

        Will the algea release toxins into the soil that could be harmful ?
        I know nothing about this. Just wondering.

          If you were irrigating with water from a river chances are there would be some level of algea...No problem...

                          What ever color you paint it as long as she can't see it you should be good to go. A little algae never hurt nobody. It's nature, might even help . What Smoke said.

                            I would go with the algae eaters. They will keep the algae under control and make fertilizer for the plants in the process.
