I bought a pellet pooper earlier this sumer but honestly I'm disappointed in the end product versus what I'm use to on my UDS or Kettle.I just don't get any smoke flavor at all. The set it and forget it is nice but the end result isn't usually up to my standards. That's just my experience. I'm going to try some different pellets and also use my tube smoker and see if I can improve my results.

What brand of pooper did you get? I know a guy who had a Traeger. His caught on fire after 3 or 4 cooks. Electrical fire.

I bought a Yoder YS640 back in February 2014, best investment I made. Was fortunate that the local BBQ shop was into selling Green Eggs and pellet smokers. I looked at all of these brands, GMG, Louisiana, Traeger, MAK, Memphis, CookShack and saw them all in operation. I also traveled to see the Yoder at a dealer and at a BBQ competition in New Holland, PA and after that I was sold on the Yoder.
As for pellets I have only used BBQ Delight Apple. My family likes the flavor but I do use hickory in an AMNTS when I do brisket. After some experimenting I found that if I burn hickory for two hours it give the brisket a taste that everyone likes without being over powering. I also will put on different flavor pellets and not tell them just to get a reaction. Sometimes it works out, other times not so good.Yoder YS640

My Grilla Grills Silverbac arrived today! It took about 45 minutes to assemble. Plugged it in and ran it at 500 degrees for an hour and a half. It does appear to live up to it's reviews. It's built fairly heavy and sturdy. The main cooking shelf measures 19.5" x 22", I posted the grate size because I couldn't find it anywhere. The only thing that I am not impressed with is that the grate floats from side to side. Those of you who have seen my engineering know that I would have built in some stops to hold the grate firmly where it belongs. It moves sideways about an inch and a half, allowing it to bounce off of the chamber temperature probe. The other nit picky thing is that the grate is made in a way so that it appears to be missing a rod on each end. Made that way, but looks a little unfinished. I will edit this post this weekend with pictures to show what I'm typing about. Overall, I'm very happy with the price/quality of this smoker.

This thing really puts out some smoke on the warmup!

Once up to temp, the smoke subsides. The smell is there, but the burn becomes very efficient. Running at 500 degrees to burn off manufacturing oils.

Cut temperature down to 275 degrees and ran a few tests. Ambient temp at 31 degrees, opening door dropped cooking temp. about 15 degrees, recovered quickly after closing again. I held the door open and let temp drop way down. Smoke picks up a little while recovering. Held temperature very steady even with breeze and slight gusts.

So far, I am very impressed with this unit. The controls couldn't be simpler! Temp reading on control panel is accurate. I want to put something in it this weekend. I'll post up if I get the chance to use it.

I know this is an OLD thread but what the heck. Picked up a Pit Boss 820D awhile back and just love it. Of course here in S/W. Mi. I've been smoking in the garage because of the weather. Garage is kind of crowded, 4x6 work table, Pit Boss 820 and my old trusty Char-Grilled COS. Used both of them today and the smoke was rolling.
