Made a little progress today. Taking some inspiration from Lang, I made some new grates and got it mounted to the trailer. Those pieces of angle iron on the firebox end are for rods to hang sausage from. There is a matching set on the other end. The expanded metal on the grates goes 2 different directions for a reason. Because of a little hiccup, the middle grate doesn't fit either end. This way I can tell where it goes.
Tomorrow I'll start on the roof and Thursday I'll sand and paint. Then it's time to season.

Still progressing. Today I got most of the roof done. I left my bag of screws at home though, so that's a bit of a set back.
I don't know if you can see these very well, but the roof covers a 10 long by 8.5 wide area.
I really would like to use this in Saturdays cook off, but I don't know if I can get it painted and seasoned by then. I'll probably have to use the propane cabinet smoker.
I may need to install lighting too.
I still have some roof supports to weld in, but I want to get the tin screwed down first so I can see just how rigid it'll be.

Man... full on cooker there! Think ya might want a couple removable/unlatchable cross braces on the canopy structure for travel? Maybe sumpin’ that swings down from the top rail and locks into the bed?
Lighting..that LED strip stuff is cheap and efficient. Might need to put it in a tube/protect it tho. I bought a couple of these for my greatroom light cove. Maybe they got weatherproof ones. The “strobe mode” would b cool You can fire them direct off 12VDC... https://www.amazon.com/Nexlux-Flexib.../dp/B01MU9MF07In God I trust- All others pay cash...Check out the Mad Hunky and products at https://madhunkymeats.com or https://www.facebook.com/MadHunkyMeats

And I love the idea of LED lighting. We have LED lights inside our toy hauler, and them suckers are bright and take very little energy to work.
Thanks for the input Rich.

Still pressing along here. I re-plumbed my log lighter, made a new shelf, installed the exhaust pipe, screwed the top down. The self tapping screws wouldn't thread the 1/8 inch square tubing without breaking, so I had to pre-drill every hole. That set me back too. So no comp with this smoker this weekend.
Oh, and I put taller tires on it.
My welds are really starting to suffer because of my darn 51 year old eyes. I can't wear my reading glasses because I can't get them adjusted right inside the welding helmet. If any of you welders have a suggestion for eye glasses, I'm all ears.

They make magnifying lens for welding helmets but I never tried them. I can wear a pair of cheaters inside my auto darkening helmet no problem. Don't tell me you are using a old school helmet with the small ass lens the new helmets are like nite and day compared to those.
