  • Baked Spaghetti with Smoked Sausage

When I make spaghetti I use sausage instead of hamburger and Andy likes the spaghetti baked. So here's an easy recipe I have used over and over for the past several years that we have grown to love.

This time I decided to smoke the 1lb of sausage instead of browning it on the stove top. Here's the sausage in the smoker from last week with its 2 pork loin friends

It turned out pretty darn tasty on its own...

Wrapped it up and put it in the fridge until I made my baked spaghetti a few nights later.

    Here is what you'll need:

    Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees

1 lb sausage (or whatever meat you like)
    1 medium onion chopped
1 8 oz package fresh mushrooms sliced (I like baby portobello)
1 can or jar marinara sauce (or make your own)
    Spaghetti cooked
    Shredded Mozzarella
    Shredded Cheddar
    Salt and Pepper to taste

I start by getting the spaghetti water boiling so the spaghetti is done by the time I need it.

Saute the onions and mushrooms together.

If my sausage wasn't already done I would have it browning in the pan with the onions and mushrooms. But since it just needs to be heated, I waited until the veggies were soft and then added the chopped sausage.

As soon as the sausage hit the heat, the smoked smell was FANTASTIC!!

Add the marinara sauce and let it heat. I use Hunt's Traditional from a can and use about 3/4 of the can.

Spaghetti should be done by now. Drain and add to the pan along with a handful of the Mozzarella and Cheddar cheeses.

Stir together until cheese is all melted and add salt and pepper.

Pour into a greased casserole dish

Cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees for about 30-40 minutes. Remove from oven and add another handful of Mozzarella and Cheddar cheese to the top.

Put back into the oven until the cheese is melted.

Served with lettuce and a bun for toast

This always turns out great for me and I loved it with the smoked sausage in it. I will use smoked sausage for this again for sure!! Also, you can bake longer than 30-40 minutes if you want (although after 30 minutes, I would probably turn the oven down to 300 degrees). The more you bake it the more it will hold together and become almost like a lasagna.

Thanks for looking at my baked spaghetti. If anyone tries it, I know you'll like it!

I like to fry my spaghetti, but this is definitely going to happen.

Good to know we're not the only ones. If I buy a loaf of bread, most of it just goes to waste, but an 8-pack of buns is just about right for the 2 of us.

Wow, that looks fantastic. I love baked spaghetti, and plain ol' naked fatties are Da-Bomb when you chop them up and add to already great dishes. In fact, I love the Hunts Canned sauce too...I think it is a hidden treasure in the sauce aisle, because I'm generally after a great marinara that I can add to anyway. Great pics of an amazing dish!
