Adding coals or wood would require removing the cheaper one altogether. Not an issue if you are just going to sear steaks and use it for grilling. Definitely makes more sense at one third the price. For my plans the removable sections are a must.

                    Hawg....yer da man...cast iron is good.. But the smaller stuff (dia.) seems to warp under higher heat. and must be carefull with cool spritz's I would imagine. as cast can crack easy with a rapid temp change.
                    I finaly went with cast grates for HOOTERS after making I can not recall so many oak and iron wood grates for her. great taste but did not last

                      Been using one 3-4 years easy........get the one in your first pic PHIL.....You have seen it in action last year at salisbury comp back when we were finishing our chicken on an kettle........


                      This is the CI grilll you mentioned in action.........Really makes great sear etc........

                          These are made to last Keith.......I guarantee if taken care of it will last a lifetime........They really are worth it IMO........I guarantee i have worn out at least 10 of the standard grates that you grill on over the years and that easy covers the price of the CI....
