best band depends entirely on mood and day.

Sometimes nothing but manowar will scratch a particular itch.
    Sometimes a bit of country.

I think it's easier to pick a best album than a best band.

meatloaf: Bat Out of hell, has to be my number one.
The rest of my top ten would probably include:
Jim Steinman: bad for good. meatloaf ha ssince recorded most of the songs on the album - but for my money Jim steinman's riginals are soo much better.

Judas priest: stained class. best abum from one of the best metal bands to ever come out of england. I think one of their most recent albums Nostradamus, comes close. But stained class has everything from alien invasions to some poor sod trapped in a coma. Back then rob halford could hit any note anywhere. Low high, the guy just had a truly awesome voice.

manowar: into glory ride. Seen them live in 3 countries, but for me the second album just has everything you could ever want in a metal album.
Warriors of the world would come close. Nessum dorma & American trilogy on an album with some of the most ear crushing tracks ever recorded in hands of doom and house of death. And yet the whole album works.
If you look very closely, on one of the live dvd's (can't remember which one) I appear for about a second leaning on the front barrier in copenhagen, refusing to wave my arms in the air and cheer at an empty stage lol

Queensryche: operation mindcrime - best concept album EVER recorded by anyone, ever ! A band that peaked with their third album and never really recovered. there are some great songs on empire. But mindcrime is as perfect an album as you will ever hear.
I did see them live in stoke, on the original mindcrime tour. They weren't that great alive band as it sounded exactly the same as the album. Live versions should be that little bit different. But geoff tate just hit every single note exactly as he had in the studio. Shouldn't be a negative, but somehow it was.

    and some others lol
If I could find one with the right mix of tracks - I'd have to throw in a Blackberry smoke live album as well. Leave a scar live, is curently on my car sd card. But has some tracks I'm not that gone on.
And probably a garth brooks live album as well.
And possibly saxon denim and leather, or eagle has landed live album.

Good list Snarls... CSN rocked it. Didn't care for Neil Young... but that's a personal thing.

Well hell yeah, forgot aboot Chicago. Yeah, Neil Young is a screwball, but we are talking about the music, not the nuts that make it.

I distinctly remember slow dancing at 2 or 3 elementary school dance's to Chicago: "If You Leave Me Now".
                I was 12 and a half and I thought I loved her!
in hindsight I wonder if I dodged a bullet!
