  • Some Thoughts On Wings........

Love me some wings...... BUT, love me some fresh wings best..... I dunno why, but every wing that I have cooked or eaten that had been frozen was tough. I have bought them frozen from 3 different places & every batch was tough..... My buddy brought over aboot 5 pounds of them Saturday to cook up while we were drinking.....Um, I mean watching football and I never thought anything of it when I put them on the grill.....

WHOA Little Richtee on the camera folks, sorry aboot that

When they were done & we were eating them, I asked where he got the wings...... Hmmmm, same place I'd purchased them before & yes they were previously frozen ...... Tough again ..... They all seemed to like them & woofed em down, but to me, they were average..... The unfrozen wings score much higher in my book..... Thoughts?

Most of the frozen ones I see around here are "treated with up to a 30% solution....." That might explain the difference from fresh. Perhaps check into splitting a case of fresh ones with a buddy.

And BTW, best stock up now. Chicken wings will double in price in the next few weeks due to the Superbowl.

      Wings look good...

As to your question, I have never done frozen wings. I always do fresh. I need to do a little knife work but it's fine by me. They have always been very tender and a hit with folks.

After hearing your thoughts, no way I'll ever do frozen wings I guess.

I concur! The only time I buy frozen wings is if I'm bringing them into work for a pot luck. I do a fast grill to get some flavor and then finish in the crock pot. But when they are for me and mine, I buy fresh, never frozen.

ill sound like a broken record like I usually do when it comes to meat.

Fresh is always better, and even better yet is some amish, or local wings. Cut out those factory birds from Tyson, Purdue, etc. at all costs.

I always try to buy fresh too. The frozen ones do have a funny texture. I think you guys are right it is the solution they use

I have heard that some folks will boil them(chicken wings) prior to grilling/frying.

Ya know... now that you mention it... it DOES seem some wings I can NEVER get to pull apart like I want them to... and looking back, I think it was the frozen ones? Im gonna pay attention and do a batch of both as I have 2 more samples of the Hot Whang due to arrive soon.
