  • Cleaning Thermapens And Thermometers......

I am looking for something handy and disposable to clean Thermapens and probes, like a wipe. I typically wash in hot water with Blue Dawn and rinse and dry. Should I be looking for Alcohol based, or bleach?
What are y'all using for something like this

Thanks, I think you may have helped me answer my question though

Problem with the Clorox wipes is you have to rinse them off afterwards. Leaves a not food safe residue. Usually I just use soap and water and a sponge on mine but I have been known to use the Clorox wipes on occasion

We do the same thing in areas that don't have hot water, Clorox wipe then wipe off with a paper towel. I am thinking out loud here (cause I don't know what is best?) For a simple disposable type wipe, is Alcohol or Bleach the best way to go? I think I heard in the past Bleach, butt just trying to figure oot what I should purchase

I use the alcohol swabs that I buy in the diabetic supply section at the pharmacy...I get a box of 100 for a dollar so it doesn't break the bank when I use several in a day...

the alcohol swabs will surely sanitize, but they're not really good for cleaning. You have to make sure the probe is clean before hitting it with the alcohol, otherwise you might as well just be wiping it with water. Which I suppose has a place too, especially if you don't have access to water and need something quick and easy to wipe it with.

I clean with soap & water after the cook. I wipe with an alcohol wipe just before the cook.

I can tell you one thing I do with my Thermapen, when it's in use.
I never close it all the way unless it's clean & putting it away.
When using it & in between sticking things with it, I stop about a half inch from the handle clip. At that point the Therm read-out shuts off but the tip isn't inside the tip holder where bad things can get stuck in there.

Cool thing is, no matter what I have done... no one ever died from it... Just clean them the best you can in your current environment. Comps are a tough platform. Backyard, not so much of a challenge... you have options.

                            Butt yes, CLEANSE!!!
