  • Lighting charcoal chimney

Seams like the paper method works fine, sometimes, And I have my "camp- chef close by, I place the starter over the flame and the coals are going in about 30 seconds. Just though I would share.

I got the idea from doing BBQ comps... I saw a guy doing that and thought that was brilliant! Another way is to light a can of Sterno and place the chimney over that. Very portable, and no heavy metal to lug around.

I use sterno when I run out of those paraffin cubes.

I didn't have either today so I made some fire starters using Vaseline coated cotton balls. Worked like a charm.

Damn, never thought about using sterno, I must have at least 10 cans around here.

                Another great fire starter:

Line mini-muffin tins with paper liners. Fill with wood shavings. Pour in melted paraffin wax.

To use, light an edge of the paper, which will act as a wick until some of the wax melts and the wood ignites.
But we hae meat and we can eat
And sae the lord be thanket

Just in case there's anyone here that doesn't know about it, don't let your starter chimney sitting on concrete while heating-----Could cause an explosion.

Another one we used to use when backpacking, save your dryer lint and fill egg cartons with it, then melt wax into it. Break one off and light it. Works great as a fire starter. Doesn't work real good with the styrofoam egg cartons (but it does work), but the old fashion cardboard ones are awesome.

Probably works with Belly Button Lint, too.

Might take a few years to save enough up.

Nah... when your belly's as big as mine it fills up faster than the dryer lint trap!

Actual tests show that virgin belly button lint burns hottest.

Unfortunately, the supply of virgins, of late, is on the slim side.... :>(
