It's not white here yet but it snowed in Alberta on the weekend. Didn't get quite cold enough here. I started a smoker project at the lake a few weeks ago using an old fridge and put the thing together pretty quick just cause I wanted to use it. Too excited to even wait until I brought a thermometer from home!!
I've grilled for years, all year round, cooked for many more so how hard can it be to smoke a pork butt? I trimmed up the butt and opened the cupboard and fridge. Some of this , some of that and a little of this and throw it all in the fridge until I get the old fridge fired up. Electric burner, cast iron pan and some apple wood. I threw it in around 7 pm ( I told ya I was excited) and kept checking the progress ( way too many times) and finally figured it was safe to eat at about 2 am. After all, it was just me and my son and one of his buds that would be the guinea pigs. For an old boat in uncharted waters, we survived the voyage, it tasted great and looked good.
I just brought the smoker home so I can spend the winter honing the skills I hope to gain here and pit some TLC into my old fridge.
