  • Jerky dryer/dehydrator

I had a pict of this somewhere...mighta been at that beginner's site but anyway... any of the ovens with a downdraft fan, and especially with a convection mode- make real good dehydrators.

I have a Jennaire, and what I do is take doubled aluminum foil and make a sort of duct from the oven door to the downdraft. I prop the door open with a short hunk of dowel pressing on the oven light switch, which allows the convection fan to operate with the door cracked.

The downdraft sucks the humid air out quite well, as the convection fan keeps it moving. I run tho oven at like 150-180 depending on thickness of jerky and time available.

In God I trust- All others pay cash...

Had a buddy that used to make jerky like that & sell it. He had like 4 ovens in his garage. Made out ok as he was on disability and couldn't work. Everybody bought his jerky, but that was in Calif.

Nice little invention there.... I'm getting to where I like my jerky done in the oven even better than the smoker. Is that bad?

Fish I use dehydrater as its quicker and easier. I feel I control the it better as not to make shoe leather type. I have my dehydrater down to 1 hour per pound of meat.
