Over here mead is quite popular and we pair it
regullary with different foods.
There is basically 3 different kinds of mead:
1. Pure honey mead
2. Honey and berry meat
3. Spiced meat
The pure honey meat is a great addition to any kind of goat cheese meal.
It also is nice in combination with chocolate and salt. We sometimes
bake chocolate and salt pretzels for dessert and mead goes well with this.
The honey and berry mead (most of the time blackberry or cherry) is a perfect addition to any kind of dark meat. I use it for wild boar ragouts, deer roasts or even rabbit. It can be a nice combination with beef, too, if there is something like a potatoe or bread crust involved. That will diffuse the strong taste of the mead and so don't spoil the flavor of the beef itself.
The spiced mead is my least favorite. One can get it in many different flavrings with ginger, cinnamon and chili beeing the most common ones.
This stuff goes well with any kind of dessert. Especially as a sauce for ice cream or fruit salat.
Hope that helps!
Cheers :)Cooking on a Kingstone grill, nothing fancy but
always fun.
Me loves some nice southern style barbecue... ah and some nice asian food ;)
