  • Dog treat jerky

Sous chef wanted to do some cooking today. He wanted to make some chicken dog treats. Got the grinder and the jerky gun out.

Started with 4 pounds of thighs. Bones saved to make super stock. Skin saved to make schmaltz and gribeness.

Jerky's smoking away. More photos to come.

Awesome! How did the jerky turn out? And we may need a picture of the dog.

I wonder if your dogs would notice a piece or 2 missing? Have you ever made dog treats outta chicken breasts - like the stuff at Costco? I just bought a 10 pound box and am thinking of a light smoke then Nesco dehydrator.....

Dogs love fat! With that said you could use breasts. It might crumble though when you cut it.

I just made another batch of dog jerky.
I buy the bulk frozen chicken breasts when on sale. 4 KG box / 9 pound.
I slice the chicken when it is 3/4 frozen on a meat slicer.
Dry with towels. Add some poultry seasoning and parsley flakes.
My Nesco takes about 12 - 18 hours because I slice thick - about 4 to 5 slices per breast. These are very dry and crunchy for the dog.

Time to make some beef jerky. 5 pound grass fed sirloin roast tomorrow.
