I need to do the grommet mod for the temp probe. Has anyone used the black rubber electrical grommets from lowes or HD, they look exactly like the red high temp ones that people are using, just these are like .50 each!
Just wondering how the rubber would help with the temps.

They would probably work, but I suspect that the rubber would eventually either break down or melt under temp, unlike the silicone red ones.

Here is what I bought for my probe ports:
McMaster-Carr out of Sante Fe Springs CA. Item 1061T82 (pack of 10).

      Push-in High-Temperature Flexible Grommet, MS35489-91, AN931-C3-5, 3/16"ID, 7/16" OD

      http://www.mcmaster.com/nav/enter.asp?partnum=1061T82
      https://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/122/3859/=15s8ssm

I think they were about 33 cents each....

Thanks for the link. Can you fit 2 wires through one grommet, or should I go with a bigger ID?

It depends on the probe size... but I only run one probe per port with these... I'd go with a bigger ID for multiple probes.

I guess i will run 2 separate probes then. I'm going to swing by the depot or Lowes today to see if they have anything else. I saw some other good ideas for the probe mod.

I have one of these installed on my RF. Plenty of room for multiple probes.

Another option is to get a "cable gland"... these typically can house multiple probes.

Everything is ready to go. Just need to strip the paint tomorrow and paint. Not sure if that's gonna happen though. Had a cold front come through today and its supposed to be in the upper 50's tomorrow. Gotta love SW FLA! 20170107_131933.jpg20170107_131947.jpg20170107_132009.jpg20170107_154531.jpg20170107_154611.jpg20170107_154709.jpg20170107_154748.jpg

Just had a quick question, is the washer on the backside of the cable gland "food grade" safe? It's not stainless or aluminum. It appears to be zinc, maybe?! It's not galvanized, that I do know! 20170107_151740.jpg

If you got the cable connector that I suggested from HD, it doesn't come with one or is needed...

That's the one that I got, but as you can see in the pic I posted in the previous post, I had to add a washer to make it a snug fit.

My RF is 1/4" thick and I'm sure your drum is much thinner. You could always change out the washer to a stainless one, or put the washer on the outside.

I really would not worry about it. It could be depleted uranium prolly, and not hurt anything up there

1/4" thick?!?! That bad boy can be used as a bomb shelter if needed!!! And my OCD won't allow me to put the washer on the outside. "Out of sight outta mind" 😎
