I put mine in the lower right hand side, on top of the charcoal tray. Next to the air inlet - eave that fully closed for 99% of your cooks.
I then slow cook on the left. And slightly faster cooking/low temp grilling on the cooling rack above the charcoal basket.

For stuff like jerky, you simply use one channel, for things like pulled pork I'll use 3 or 4 of the channels.

basically it gives you 4 consistent temperature settings.

I also recommend one of these: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Electric...kAAOSwySVaNPyj

I have the original looftlighter. But they seem to have gone, possibly because of all the chinese copies.
But they make setting the charcoal and lighting from the top really simple. Much better than a charcoal chimney.
This is brilliant! I have been scratching my head as to how much charcoal to put in...this gives me a solid starting point?

Guess I better start saving what would probably be at least AUS $8 now [emoji23]

yeah the reason I never got a sfb is that in the uk they cost stupid amount of money.
                    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Chargriller...ds=chargriller
                    £136 ish - around $180

One other thing I've done when doing a large cook and not wanting the stuff over the charcoal bsket to cook too quick is put a large baking tin over right side. This acts as a heat deflector and cuts down the heat going straight up.

Our american cousins don't get that we can't just walk into a shop and buy the bbq stuff they all take for granted.
Amazon is pretty much the only place you can get stuff out of season.

Things are improving in the uk, but you still can't buy a bbq in a store anytime other than summer.

So pound/dollar stores and discount stores are your best friend - that and a little lateral thinking :-)
