This is a great book no doubt!

I must say though I have found a book I like a lil better.

He has grilling tips in here as well but has a different way of approaching BBQ while respecting the traditions of BBQ. I am very impressed with what I have read so far.

You can also find Magic Dust in Americ's Best BBQ. Great book it gives the history of the restaurants the receipes come from. One question on the magic dust. How spicey is it? I would like to try it as is but the family can't take to much heat.

I enjoyed the book, too and have been meaning to try the magic dust.

Ironically, having grown up in southern IL, 17th Street (Mike's que joint) came to prominence after I left the region. My family always thought 'real' BBQ was only available about 1 hr south of his place in the Paducah, KY area.

My Dad has eaten there and thought it was okay, though.

I have mixed up quite a few batches since this post. Good stuff. I also like to take a couple tablespoons of it and mix into a tub of sour cream. It makes a great dip!

Just ordered the book from amazon for less than $12 with shipping. I think my wife may try and block amazon, I have ordered 6 books and 2 cds in the last 2 weeks. I like to read.

I've had this recipe in my files since you posted the recipe and I just keep putting off trying it. I almost mixed up a batch last weekend when I was low on rub but I gave the old recipe from the other site another try. The next time I need to try a new rub I'm making this Magic Dust.

As I said before it IS a good basic mix. If yer ever in a fix- and it happens as it does with me... you can mix up a batch of this and be confident of it's quality. I WOULD caution you to use fresh, quality ingredients of course.

I DO have another recipe here...I'll sell you for $15...sauce AND rub...

I tried the magic dust rub on my burnt ends and I was overtaken by the cumin. Once it cooked down it was better but I will try again with a lot less cumin next batch.
