  • Louie's Raised Boxes

Louie has the green thumb. I do the eat it gig! Nothin better than home grown. We use these raised beds cause it's ez for us to maintain.

She is so proud of this Cherokee Rose. Got it at a local nursey, man told her it was really not for sale & was sterile would not produce flowers....Wrong!

Do you use the weed fabric on the ground. If so how many layers to keep the weeds out? I've been thinking about doing this for awhile. The big garden wore me down a few years ago trying to keep these nasty Texas weeds out and now do mostly containers for peppers and such.

Cedar is better than green treated cause of the arsenic.

No arsenic in pressure treated wood...been banned awhile. Besides all the DDT i used when I was a pup shoulda killed me.

So you shouldn't use wood that is used in house building(untreated pine)? I know Cedar will last ages but at my age time is not on my side.

Pine is fine. I just wouldn't use green treated. My preference.

I don't think arsenic is banned in the green treated.

Or just do a google search for Green Treated Wood Toxins you'll see enough to steer you elsewhere, and it looks like Slanted is usin regular wood.

I tried the raised beds, I built two of them 10'x8' and toted 6 yards of fresh compost to fill them.. They didnt work so well for me.. So I took them down and toted the 6 yards of compost & dirt to the flower beds..

Now I keep it simple 2'x30' along one fence...

I guess since you have sandy soil, they are a must..

I love it here! I cashed in all my favor chips to get back here for my retirement assignment. Retired in July last year and work on base as a civilian now.

I like the 2x12 boxes, I think if I get motivated to do it, that's what I'll do.
