  • Cleaning Slicer sharpening stones?

I picked up a nice Hobart 512 slicer last week that just needs a good cleaning.
The worst part is the sharpening stone, it's black with grease and who knows what else. I'd like to drop the sharpening attachment in a bucket of cleaner and let it soak I was going to go with a lye base solution, but it has some plastic and aluminum parts.
    Any suggestions?
and yes I know I can break it all down and clean it separately , but I got enough projects started already....

That stuff I lit the Lang with would work. Or denatured. Or maybe sone straight Dawn soak and a boil?

I'd boil it. The plastic parts are what you are going to have to be careful of.

Simple green, and replace the stones. Once they are coated it is extremely hard to get them clean. Maybe ultrasonic cleaner would do it.

Looks like they are the same as the 1620 so you can find them easily and relatively cost effective.

I probably will, but to get them out might take a while to get to. Thanks Rob.

Something like the alcohols will get into the stone and flush it out. Or...SHOULD... based on other experiences with the stuff.
