Wow that looks insane was it bone in and then you removed them?
I've got one about 3.8 pounds from memory, if I cooked it on the bone would I do it basicly the same?

Thanks AK1, and good to see you here!!!

That's a good question:
Last December they had Standing Rib Roast on sale here ($4.99).
I decided to stock up real good, so I asked them to do a custom cut for me.
I told them I wanted to buy 10 roasts, about 6 pounds each.
Then I wanted all of the bones trimmed off, and kept separate for Smoked Dinos.
Then I wanted two of those now boneless roasts cut into one inch Ribeyes, and the other 8 roasts kept as boneless rib roasts.

So I ended up with 70 pounds of goodies:
10 Boneless Ribeyes.
8 Prime Ribs (boneless).
14 pounds of luscious Beef Dinos.

All for only $350.

I have 4 roasts left to eat before December, when the price gets down to $4.99 or $5.99 again.

Man that looks good!!!! About 3 years ago I did prime rib on the bone for Christmas Dinner. It was about 8.99 a pound though as I recall. My son called me up and informed me that his girlfriend's mom was coming to dinner, so I had to go to the store and buy another joint. As I recall I had about $100.00 in the meat. I didn't smoke it, though, just roasted it in the oven and it was a huge hit with the family
Half that price is just obscene, dude.

Thank You Snarls!!!

The time to look close at Standing Rib prices is the last week before Christmas. That was the best price here, at least two years in a row.

Here is how it happened:

I make a mean prime rib but I haven't tried smoking one yet. Bearcarver's pics are awesome. Nice marble-ing. Perfectly done. I pull all my PR's at 120 and rest for 1 hour.

Never buy a prime rib without the bone - IMHO. And @ 4.99 - THAT is a steal.

Thanks XLR !!

I never bought any boneless either, but when I bought the 70 pounds of standing rib last December, I had the bones cut off of all of it, so I could get the 14 pounds of Dinos.
I did that because I like my Prime Rib Med-Rare, and my Dinos Med Well, because of all the fat around the bones.

Here's what I'm talking about :
