  • Vortex Wing Question

Today is the day I finally get to do some wings on the Weber with the vortex. I have looked at several threads in the poultry forum and see a lot of ideas. My main question is this, the wings I bought are not split, so should I split them or leave them whole? I am sure it is mostly a personal preference but would like to hear what you guys think/do when cooking wings with a vortex.

Personally I just cut off the wing tip and leave the two sections attached...When they are done the joint will separate easily...

I do think that you can fit more wings around the "V" when they are split but I don't usually need to worry about that...Or...Maybe I'm just lazy

I split mine, remove the tip and save them for chicken stock. I cook them around the Vortex... here's the 18.5" Weber kettle in action:

Then sauce them in my Asian sauce:

                    Drinks well with others

Im lazy so I do mine just the way they are when I buy them. I have never cut the tips off. Like others said I too like chewing on the crunchy ends. Most of the time though mine are the 10 lb bags from Sams or Costco that are already cut up....Good luck with the V.
