  • First Texas Win

I got a call from a buddy in Lawton a couple weeks ago asking if I would help him oout at the Lone Star Barbecue Society 2011 National Championship in Meridain Texas. I accepted because it sounded like fun.

    Here is the result:

    1st place brisket and RGC.

I had to chuckle at the fact that an Okie won the Texas brisket championship.

Now, Now Now! I've got about a dozen ribbons and trophies for brisket that would seem to imply a little visual ability.

Not my team Eraine. We kinda dissolved the team when my comp rig was stolen. It's hard to get motivated to cook off the tailgate when you are used to an air conditioned mobile kitchen.

Yes it was a SmokyOkie Brisket. That's the only way I cook brisket.

Other than an occasional odd judges table, I pretty well stay in the top 5 with them.

The last comp I did was at Mike Lake's KCBS Feld of Dreams ( runs with the Butt to Butt) last year. Wee took 3rd there out by one appearance point because I put too many burnt ends in the box.
