Broncowanted Is Just Starting Out
Default New addition

Just got my new homemade (sorta) smoker home. Old hot cabinet with new element and a strip heater. Both heater and element are on a thermostat. Trying it out and do far so good. Holding 275 easy with 3 notches left on the controls. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1345314292.465464.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1345314312.280237.jpg

That's a beauty! Gonna be looking for something similar this fall I think for sausage, now that my Cookshack is gone.

Did you build it?

A buddy of my who is an engineer did the wiring. I did the design for the racks and the welding. I bought the cabinet out of a restaurant supply place at a deal because it was broken and parts were expensive. Turned out a new $25 element and a $25 strip heater were all it needed. Used some scrap stainless to build a heat shield on the strip heater and removed the timer. Works like a charm.

Just finished a test run and it will hold anywhere from 95 to 350 with no problem. Can't wait to smoke it up with some BB and butts.

Nice looking unit, very nice work!
I can not see it the pictures, but is there a lower air intake and an exhaust near the top of the smoker.

Intake in the very bottom of the unit with a vent style control and the exhaust is in the top left of the door with a control as well.

Fish you might wanna look at the Master Forge 30" at Lowes for $199. I got one just for sausage. Need to do a review. Sorry for the derail.

can't see any air vents top or bottom.

Curious where the smoke is going and how you're going to give the amns air so the sawdust can burn.

Have to admit it's a smart looking gadget and I've been looking at hot cabinets as a cheap low temp oven for summersauage, ham, jerky etc On a commercial basis.
Hadn't considered it as a smoker - but definitely will now, that would be a definite bonus

So ventilation - what did you do ?
