In my past life, I had to respond to more than a few consumer complaints on this topic. Almost all of them were on discoloration, and that was almost always due to a bad cryo on MAP packed meat, or difference in color on ground meats from the exterior to the interior. Also would get complaints from the bone dust left on meat from being band sawed, and then not scraped. It was quite rare for a store to sell bad meat. Its just bad for business. Usually your nose knows. When in doubt, throw it out.

i kno' my nose kno's, but there are times when i cut open that cryopac (on meat purchased that day) and my nose thinks WTF is that odor.

I just had yesterday a pkg of grnd rnd that had a sour smell. It was just a Lb but what with the time i had it in the fridge and the smell. (Mild Sour) i decided to cook it up for the pups. It probably Maybe mite have been ok But wth the pups loved it.
I am the guy that eats the meat lovers pizza the next morning after it has been sitting out on the counter but i still have been getting more conservative since reading and studiing on makeing sausage.
I did cry though. That was 1 whole summer sausage if i had used it.

I am sorry but I think giving bad/questionable meat to your dogs is just as bad as serving it to family and friends. Be kind to your furry friends!!
