Avoid acidic and salty dishes. I won't cook in AL unless it's baking, which I don't do, or coated.

On edit..a boil/fry pot or such don't bother me either.

Rich I love ya Man, ....but I cook in CAST aluminum all the time, have all my life. My Club Cookware collection (My Moms) has been in use since the late 40's. Acidic, salty, boil or fry - cook anything in it! Now sheet/pressed/rolled aluminum is a different animal, don be gettin no acidic stuff on that! It disappear on ya in places..
If ya really wanna know the molecular structure is different tween the two, taint the same.
Hot Sauce ya got a real cool piece there. Fire up anything ya what in it, though it's intended as a roaster. I wouldn't let mater sauce sit in in cold fer too long though, get a dark ring around it. Other than that be most fine!

And just what causes that dark ring?? A chemical reaction. Yes..perhaps cast is less "active". But it still is. And there's an awful lot of evidence that says you don't want too much in your diet. I just avoid it, and eat what I can't avoid.

                          Re:

                          Great going Hot Sauce !

The only cast aluminum DO's I used to see were sold through Canoe suppliers. They are for light weight travel into the out back reaches for campers and fishermen. They are anodized black, very light and very expensive. Some of them don't have legs under them but use a folding
                          stand in place of it.

                          Amazon now carries them

                          http://www.amazon.com/GSI-Outdoor-Ha...TFTD607YHC4WS7

The one you have there would still do a job in the Oven in the cold winter months.

It should become a member of the family !

                            Sweet find!

I used to have a CA griddle pan that fit across both burners on me Coleman propane camp stove. It worked great for everything that I remember cooking on it. Cant find it now though..... I really liked it and it was 1/2 or less the weight of me CI griddle pan.

Ahhhh..... The old fishing days of taking a break, cooking breakfast, red beers, then maybe a nap before the afternoon fishing
