so saturday had storms and rain forecast and i wanted a bbq.
Yes I've cooked in the rain and thunder before - but it's not ideal.
So decided on simple food and an indoor 'bbq' instead :-)
made a lot of rbts (renewable-energy buffalo turds): sweet peppers with heavily doctored philly and a whole strip of bacon per rbt, yeah i usually cut it in half and stretch - couldn't be arsed :-)
Added fair whack of smoke powder to filling and used smoked bacon - result, nice and smokey rbts.
Cooked rbts in oven:
My indoor grill is a cheap aldi tepanyaki.
skinned and boned some chicken thighs and made lemon chicken kebabs, marinated for about 4 hours:
Also did some bratwurst:
Also did german style potato salad with creme fraiche and chopped up boiled eggs - no pics of that (oops).
In fact no plated pics at all, hey we were hungry :-)
But there is an aftermath pic:
For dessert I wanted to use some of the frozen pitted cherries from this years main pick:
To make a cherry and peach pie.
Well as I waited till they were really juicy and ripe this year, as soon as I hit the defrosted cherries with a stick blender, they turned in a thin slurry.
Hmmm, thinks.
So added some cornflour, mixed spice, little vanilla sugar and a couple of eggs and made cherry curd. A sort of blitzed clafouti - kinda, sorta, almost lol
basically you mix the eggs in and microwave, stirring every 30 seconds till it thickens into something stable enough to balance peach slices on top of.
Put a good layer of brown sugar on top of the peach slices for a nice caramelisation.
Worked a treat, served warm - not hot- with chantilly cream - definite keeper
It did rain most of saturday - so was the right choice
And that was saturdays indoor bbq
As we went out for dinner yesterday with friends, having leftovers tonight with some corn on the cob, more bratties and garlic bread :-)
