I have been looking at a lot of stuff with food cooked on a UDS. I couldn't stand it any more. So I had to build one for myself.
I got a brand new unlined drum for free thanks to my warehouse purchaser giving me the hook-up. I made my own fire basket and grill grates. I have access to some great welders at work and they did an awesome job for me. I was able to sand blast the whole barrel in a large cabinet blaster in our machine shop. I Primed and painted the whole thing with Rustoleum high heat paint and finished it out with stainless hardware. I am very pleased with the outcome. I have burned a couple of small fires in it to cure the paint. Now I can't wait to break her in. I'm thinking smoked pork belly for the maiden cook. Nice and fatty for a seasoning cook and we will all reap the benefits of some pork wonderfullness.
The bare drum.
Grates and fire basket.
Final product...Not so Ugly I think.
Thanks for looking. Hopefully I can break her in this weekend. I'm working nights on another turnaround until June, so I plan on taking it out to work and firing it up and getting some use out of it.
