  • looking for recipe for little smokies - the sauce

I need some help - I am looking for a good BBQ sauce of sorts for some little smokies. Everyone just seems to throw a bottle of plain BBQ sauce in the crockpot and call it good. I am looking for something better. Anyone have some ideas?

    Thanks!

Simple and pretty tasty. Great w/ meatballs as well!

I use KC Masterpiece and water it down a little with water. Plain ole way, but works great...a lot of people add grape jelly.

Never tried the grape jelly, but lots do it...I will have to try it. ....I bet they would be good with a Asian Zing type BBQ sauce.

I have seen a lot of people use the grape jelly and I think I will have to try it.

We use 2 parts peach jelly with 1 part mustard for some ring sausage that we make. Same concept as the smokies. It looks really gross but taste great. I guess i could try that with smokies instead too. It may turn out to be a sampling weekend to get ready for the holidays. See what we like best.

                  you could try this
                  Sweet Barbecue Sauce:

                  1 (14-ounce) bottle ketchup

                  1/4 cup chopped yellow onions

                  6 tablespoons water

2 tablespoons packed light brown sugar

                  1 1/2 teaspoons chopped garlic

                  1 1/2 teaspoons molasses

1 1/2 teaspoons Creole or other whole-grain mustard

1/2 teaspoon hot pepper sauce (recommended: Tabasco)

                  1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

                  1/4 teaspoon salt

                  1/8 teaspoon cayenne

1 1/2 teaspoons peeled and grated fresh ginger

1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Combine all the ingredients in a food processor or blender and process until smooth. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula and pulse 2 or 3 times.

Place in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 1 week. Bring to room temperature before serving.

                  Yield: 2 cups

on thats a little different but very very good take equal parts sweet and sour and honey mustard (can adjust to taste) gives it a different taste and very good.

                      a quick diy teriyaki:

                      equal amounts:
                      orange juice
                      ketchup
                      soysauce

and about 1/3 the amount lea & perrins or other decent worcestershire sauce.

                      Great stuff

I just put my favorite BBQ sauce or what ever sauce I can find in the fridge over the meat. I will have to try the grape jelly thing. Sounds kind of good.

This is what I think of when I think of chili sauce. I've used it as a base for cocktail sauce before with good luck as well.
