  • Recommend a deep fryer...

So what does everyone use for a deep fryer? I have one of those Fry Daddy appliances but it's not much good for anything other than frozen french fries.

I would like something that is dedicated use and self contained like the Fry Daddy but something more up to snuff. For doing fish fillets and the like.
Something that will hold temp nicely I guess is the main thing.

I have a nice dutch oven I can put oil in and I have a Thermapen and I know alot of people go that route but I don't want to start using my dutch oven as a deep fat fryer.
    So any suggestions are appreciated...

I have one similar to this...

        <iframe src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?lt1=_blank&bc1=000000&IS2=1&bg1=FFFFFF&fc1=0000 00&lc1=0000FF&t=pitrowpro-20&o=1&p=8&l=as4&m=amazon&f=ifr&ref=ss_til&asins=B 003WEAHW2" style="width:120px;height:240px;" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0"></iframe>

Though I think it's an older model. Works great, my only complaint is that the little button to unlock the lid never worked and I ended up breaking the cheap plastic latch, so now the lid won't lock shut. I have to put something heavy on the lid to keep it closed.

Yeah I have one of those too and it works good when outdoors but I also want something I can use indoors along the lines of what pitrow is using. I just want it to work well though. Something I don't have to wait 10 minutes for the oil to heat up between doing batches of fish.

Indoors and not waiting are kinda mutually exclusive. You really don't wanna run the risk of 200K BTU's and gallons of oil inside...do you? Not to mention the CO build-up.

I have this one and it works great. It even has removable lid and you can clean the filters in the top. Basket drops into and out of the oil by pivoting the handle. Very happy so far. Had it for 5+ years

Anyone have any experience with those infrared grease less fryers? Been eye balling them for a while now...

I've been using a Waring Pro DF200 for about 4 years now, and have no real issues with it. As mentioned, the magnetic plug can be a PITA, but I solved that by just hard wiring it. I think you might have to go commercial to do better; especially for the price.

I just use either a 4 qt or 10 qt pot. Heat the oil, fry, let the oil cool, strain it, and store till next time. One less appliance needed.

My dad did the same and kept a can of peanut oil to cook in. One the fries were made he had a big ol' metal funnel that he put a paper towel in to strain the oil back into the metal can. Then the metal can nested in the pot.

It's amazing how many electrical appliances there are once you start acquiring them.

We don't fry very often at all, but when I do I use a DeLonghi fryer I picked up at BJ's a few years ago....very satisfied with it's performance.

Got of those too, don't use it much but it does work well.
