It does raise a good question. I would think that for any home cooking situation if falls on the person with the allergy to let it be known.

But if you are selling your product/catering I suppose there has to be some sort of ingredient list available upon request. I think it should still fall on the consumer to request it though.

Or like you posted, get a couple signs made for the kitchen "My food is so good it might kill you"

Good grief Rich, you cause problems where ever you go.
Just take out the damn fish already!!! Sorry, I wanted to post that in that forum, but didn't want to join another one.

If the allergic person isn't responsible enough to know beyond a shadow of a doubt what he/she is eating, I only hope death wasn't painful.
Food allergies suck. My half-sister had or has them, I don't know. But when she was a little tyke, whenever she'd eat something she was allergic to, her ear drums would blow out. Weird, I know, but true. At least she didn't die. And my Dad and step-mother took the responsibility to make sure she wasn't eating stuff she shouldn't at their house, a friends house or an eatery. And when she did eat something bad, they never once considered suing the eatery. But today, I'd say a judge would lock the cook up and throw away the key. Damned if you do and damned if you don't here. But people will sue for anything today. So the solution is.................don't eat anything.

I had an Italian food booth at an indoor flie market for a few years and I ended up putting up a sign that said " Some products sold at this booth may contain nuts or nut products, if you have any alergies please let us know".

I had 5 of them all over the booth just to be sure.
But I also think it is the person who is eating the product who has the alergies who should to ask about whats in the product.

            Just my opinion of course.

good idea... put up a sign that says "you are responsible to let the cook know of any allergies you may have"... and right underneath it "we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone" (especially you) just kidding on that part of course...

Well, typically as I serve mainly family, I know the issues. But sometimes I don't, obviously. I would hope anyone eating here would let me know without me having to ask... sigh.
