I got an old Foodsaver (Tilia) on line for $60, recommended by the fine folks here last year. It's been flawless. Last week I vacupacked a full case of roasted/rinsed Hatch Chilis.
I pulled a bunch of liquid goop into the machine, I had to put a towel under it to soak it up as I made my 12 bags. After I got done I decided to rinse the pump out with a bit of water into the tube connector on top as recommended. Did a bit of water, it quit sucking, and we all know how we hate when it quits sucking...........
Opened it up, all seemed fine, just didn't suck from either orifice anymore. Had some silicon lube for o-rings at work, put a few drops in and viola! It came back to life. Gave it a pat on the head, cleaned the outside a bit and I'm happy.
If you can get one of these ol' machines they are much better than the WalMart cheapos etc.
