  • 4th Annual Eagle MI "Warm-up" cook!

Brought to you by the good guys at Great Lakes BBQ Association!

    http://www.glbbqa.com/

This is a great time... no big pressure - it's about a bit of bragging rights and maybe trying out that new procedure...

And the pot-luck dinner Friday eve is typically... well...SPECTACULAR!

4th Annual Winter Thaw and Practice Cook

The Great Lakes Barbecue Association (GLBBQA) is pleased to announce its 4th Annual Winter Thaw and Practice Cook, which will be held on April 29th and 30th, 2011, at the Eagle Park Fairgrounds in Eagle, Michigan. Our competition is open to all comers whether seasoned professional or amateur. The GLBBQA encourages new teams or anyone that has always wanted to try their hand at competitive barbecue to come and join us. This is definitely a fun get together to exchange ideas and information, share tips and recipes, and promote the true meaning of barbecue camaraderie and friendship.

Our event is non-sanctioned, but Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) procedures and judging rules will apply. This is a great opportunity to brush off the snow and prep for the season ahead.

GLBBQA knows everyone is busy planning their schedules for this upcoming season, so we wanted to get a pre-announcement out to everyone. More information and applications will be forthcoming at http://www.glbbqa.com/

It's the geography that plays against me... I am on the east coast in Delaware, which makes that a pretty substantial trek. Also, the area comps start getting into full swing around then... it's not cheap!

It is indeed a great way to bring in the spring, and sharpen your BBQ comp skills, or introduce yourself into the world of BBQ competitions.

I heard last night at the banquet that we have a very generous sponsor that is putting $1,000 worth of prize money up for this event.

At this event 4 yrs ago, I met Richtee for the first time. We had agreed on line that we would cook together. We have been best friends since, and have cooked together many times .
I met many folks that 1st Eagle cook, Crewdog,The Scotsmen,Bubba, The RSS team,Bavarian smoke, many other teams and GLBBQA members. Everyone was very helpful, and I think they all had fun.

I think " Captain-N-Smoke" will be there for the 4th annual.

Wanna know my opinion D? Go on and take a run how you wanna at Eagle. It's run by KCBS rules. Evaluate your position. Then (if need be) ask an established team to wash their dishes at a real comp. And WATCH and LISTEN. ASK only during "down" time.

              Seriously.

I do too. It's one of the main reasons I come...besides seeing the team and buds.

I'm planning... cured roast beef sammies, with li'l hard crust breads and melted provolone, with a horseradish sauce

I probably have to work on those days, but I'd love to check it out. Not sure how these things work, is it open only to competitors or could I stop in if I got a day off to see how things are run, meet some of you guys, and... oh i dunno, maybe sample some q ???
