  • Sweet & Spicy BBQ Sauce

I've been experimenting with a bbq sauce recipe for pork. I made a small batch today to go with the butt I am currently smoking.

Here's the recipe. Makes about 1 cup.

    1 cup ketchup
    1/4 cup cane syrup
    2 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
    1 tablespoon lemon juice
    Juice from one blood orange
1 teaspoon tabasco sauce (or more to taste)
    1/4 cup dark brown sugar
1 teaspoon chipotle powder (or more to taste)
    1 clove minced fresh garlic
    1 teaspoon onion powder
    1/2 teaspoon all spice
    1/2 teaspoon mustard powder
2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
    1 teaspoon liquid smoke (optional)

Combine all ingredients in sauce pan and simmer for 15 minutes.

    Hmmm interesting...

What's the idea behind the cane syurp as opposed to just cane sugar, or brown?

Cane syrup has a completely different taste. No comparison between the sugars and the syrup. I'm not sure if it is available nationwide. If you can get it, give it a try. If not, I'm sure some kind of molasses can be subsitiuted.

I's way different than molasses IMO, hard to find. I pick it up when I go down Miami way (Everglades). (Not often) If you can find it give it a try Rich, real good chit.

The only time I see it is around sugarcane growing areas.

Sounds pretty good, although I usually don't use sugar in a pork sauce, but that's just me. But as always, I'll try anything.

I like a sweet and spicy sauce on just about anything. The cane syrup adds a different flavor profile.
